- Hash text or files
- Checksum comparison to verify downloads
- Uppercase or lowercase output
- Files are never uploaded
What is a hash?
A hash function turns any input into a fixed-length fingerprint. The same input always gives the same hash, but changing even one character gives a completely different result, which makes hashes ideal for checking file integrity.
Which algorithm should I use?
Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 for anything security-related. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes but are still widely used as checksums to detect accidental corruption.
Frequently asked questions
Can a hash be reversed?
No. Hashes are one-way functions. Short or common inputs can sometimes be guessed with lookup tables, which is why passwords should be stored with a dedicated algorithm like bcrypt or Argon2.
How do I verify a downloaded file?
Choose the file, then paste the checksum published by the software author into the compare box. A green match means the file is intact.
Is it safe to hash private files here?
Yes. Hashing runs locally in your browser and the file is never uploaded.
