What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from a text by Cicero written in 45 BC. Typesetters have used it since the 1500s because it has a natural mix of word lengths, so a layout looks realistic without readers getting distracted by the meaning of the words.
When to use real content instead
Placeholder text is great early in a design, but test your layout with real content before launch. Real headlines and paragraphs are often much longer or shorter than expected.
Frequently asked questions
Does Lorem Ipsum mean anything?
Not really. It comes from Cicero's "De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum", but words have been cut and altered, so it is not readable Latin.
Is it free to use?
Yes. Lorem Ipsum is not copyrighted and can be used in any project.
Can I generate HTML?
Yes. Tick "HTML" and each paragraph is wrapped in <p></p> tags.
