How to get the smallest file
Lowering the resolution saves the most space: a 1080p video reduced to 720p is typically less than half the size. Then choose "Smaller file" quality. Phone videos are recorded at very high bitrates, so they often shrink by 70–90%.
Size limits on popular apps
WhatsApp allows videos up to about 100 MB in normal chats (and a few minutes in Status), Gmail attachments are limited to 25 MB, and Discord free accounts to 10 MB. Compressing to 720p or 480p usually gets under these limits.
Private, in-browser processing
This tool uses FFmpeg, the open-source engine behind most professional video software, running inside your browser. The first time you use it, the engine (about 30 MB) is downloaded once and then cached, so later conversions start straight away.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Processing happens on your device with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, so your video and audio never leave your computer or phone.
Why does it take a while?
Video processing is demanding, and your browser does it on your own device instead of a big server. Short clips take seconds; long or 4K videos can take several minutes. Keep the tab open until it finishes.
Will compression reduce quality?
Some detail is lost, especially at "Smaller file", but at 720p with "Balanced" most videos look almost identical on a phone screen.
