Why convert Excel to CSV?
CSV is the universal format for moving data between systems. Shopify, WooCommerce, Mailchimp, Google Contacts, banks and most databases import CSV, while many cannot read Excel files directly.
What happens to formulas and formatting?
CSV stores plain values only. Each formula is replaced by its last calculated result, dates are written as YYYY-MM-DD, and formatting such as colours, fonts and merged cells is not kept. Each sheet becomes a separate CSV.
Frequently asked questions
Which Excel formats are supported?
Modern .xlsx files from Excel 2007 or later, Google Sheets and LibreOffice. Old .xls files must be re-saved as .xlsx first.
Will accented characters display correctly?
Yes. The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a marker that tells Excel to read accents and other alphabets correctly.
Are formulas converted?
The calculated values are exported, which is what CSV imports expect.
