Edge mode vs. all matching pixels
"Background only" removes the colour only where it connects to the image edges, so the white inside a logo, such as the middle of an "O", stays. "All matching pixels" removes the colour everywhere, which is what you want for a signature on white paper.
Works best on solid backgrounds
This tool removes one background colour. It works very well for logos, icons, signatures and screenshots, but not for photos with complex backgrounds like people outdoors.
Frequently asked questions
Can it remove the background from a photo of a person?
Only if the background is a single plain colour. Complex photo backgrounds need AI-based background removal.
Why are there light edges around my logo?
Increase the tolerance slightly so the soft edge pixels are removed too.
Is the result a PNG?
Yes. PNG keeps transparency; JPG cannot.
