Which aspect ratio should I use?
1:1 (square) for profile pictures and Instagram posts, 4:5 for Instagram portrait posts, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails, presentations and widescreen displays, 9:16 for Stories, Reels and TikTok, and 4:3 or 3:2 for prints and classic photos.
Cropping without losing quality
Cropping only removes pixels from the edges. PNG files keep exact quality, and JPG or WebP files are re-saved at high quality, so the part you keep looks the same as before.
Frequently asked questions
How is the crop positioned when I pick a ratio?
The largest possible area with that ratio is centred on the image. You can then move it by changing X and Y.
Can I crop to an exact size like 1080×1080?
Yes. Choose "Free" and type 1080 for both width and height, then set X and Y to position it.
Does it work with phone photos?
Yes. Rotated phone photos are shown upright, and the crop is applied to the upright image.
