Daylight saving time
Many countries move their clocks forward in summer, on different dates. The US and Europe change on different weekends, so the gap between New York and London is sometimes 4 hours instead of 5. Converting a specific date, as this tool does, always gives the correct offset.
Scheduling across time zones
For meetings, propose the time in UTC or in every participant's local time. A time that works across Asia, Europe and the Americas is rare, so consider rotating meeting times.
Frequently asked questions
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the world time standard. Every time zone is described as an offset from UTC, for example UTC+5 for Pakistan.
Is GMT the same as UTC?
For everyday use, yes. The UK uses GMT in winter and BST (UTC+1) in summer.
Why does the date change in some cities?
When it is late evening in one zone it can already be the next morning further east. The converted date is shown for each city.
